The 96 Boys Red continued with positive strides this fall in tournament competition. The boys competed in the top U12 division of three highly recognized tournaments that attract teams from South Florida to New England.
The opening tournament was the Atlanta Cup hosted by Georgia Soccer over Labor Day weekend with teams ranked in the top 25 nationally by USA Rank. The boys finished second in their group, defeating ASA Extreme 97 Elite 4-2 in the opening match and Hoover Soccer Club 97 Blue Phantoms 6-1 later that day. The boys drop their third match against North Atlanta 15 Blackburn 2-4, and retired with a 2-1-0 tournament result.
The Columbus Day Cup followed in October hosted by Beach FC in Virginia Beach. The boys finished first in their group defeating FC Richmond Magic and Lee-Mt. Vernon Patriots 6-1 and 2-1, respectively, which paired the boys in the semifinals against very well organized BRYC Eagles White team that edged a victory over the boys by a score of 3-2, and went to claim the tournament title.
The 96 boys wrapped up the fall tournament circuit in Raleigh on November 15 and 16 at the CASL Shootout. The boys were decisive against CASL Elite Black posting a 3-0 win, followed by a hard fought 1-1 draw with South Charlotte SA 96 Blue, which immediately went to PKs. The boys edged out South Charlotte, 5-4 in PKs, which awarded them a berth in the semifinals against a Charlottesville VA team, SOCA Express. The boys defeated SOCA 2-0 to move on to the finals against NC Soccer’s U12 Fall league champs Greensboro Youth Soccer’s 96 GYS Dynamo Green. Both teams played well, but Greensboro put one end in with seven minutes remaining and held on to win 1-0.
In summary, the boys started with a 2nd place finish in the preliminary round of their first tournament, to a semifinal finish in the second, and runner-up finish in the third. Well done boys!
