Our boys U-14 Challenge team at Coast FA qualified to play in the prestigious Region III Premier League next Fall in dramatic fashion at their State Cup Tournament held in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina over the weekend.
Coast 99 Red started the tournament as a #5 seed and posted a dominant 5-0 win against #4 seed SCU/MP on their home pitch in Mount Pleasant S.C.. The semi finals opponent was #1 seeded SCUFC Elite from Columbia S.C. who participated in the National League this Spring. The match was played at a fever pitch from the opening kickoff and was dead even for 70 minutes with the deciding goal coming as an own goal off the Columbia defender to put the boys through to the state championship match. The final match brought #2 seed Cesa Challenge as the opponent and after a rough start the boys found their footing to end the half 0-0. Coast would take command of the second half with two quality goals and then dug in to protect the lead until the final whistle sounded to claim the state championship.
The team will now compete in Regionals this summer in Baton Rouge , LA. and then play in the Region III Premier League next Fall against the State Cup champions and finalist from North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. The Coast 99 Red team now joins some very elite company as one of only three squads from the Myrtle Beach area to ever achieve Premier League status. The OSSOC 88 boys team was the first to reach R3PLE followed by the Coast 96 Red boys who qualified two consecutive years under Coach Banta.
Coach Joel Banta says, " the win today is historical for Coast FA as a club. It shows how hard the players, coaches, parents and club administration has worked to provide an atmosphere for success. The future is looking bright for our club and I can certainly see our younger teams competing for Challenge League State Championships in years to come. I am fortunate to have had a chance to experience this moment as a coach and hope the team can become stronger with this new opportunity".
