90 Girls Black Finishes Third in State Cup
11/12/2007

Dateline:  November 12, 2007  Irmo, SC

The Coast FA Under 17 Girls, the Coast 90 Girls Black, finally ran out of players and magic in the South Carolina Youth Soccer Assocation State Cup tournament.  The No. 1-seed 9 Girls Black defeated Charleston United 3-1 and Rock Hill 3-2 on Saturday, but suffered a 1-0 loss to Mount Pleasant on Sunday to finish third in the tourney and a surprising 9-3-1 on the season.

The Grand Strand-based team, featuring players from Waccamaw, Carolina Forest, St. James, Socastee, Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach high schools, were already shorthanded entering the tournament thanks to two injuries over the past month. But when another went down with a broken hand in Saturday’s opener, the Raiders were down to 11, just enough to field a team.

“The girls played hard, they were just exhausted after playing three games in a 24-hour period,” said Coach Jonathan West. “I’m real proud of the way they played all season.”

Well done 90 Girls!
