Two Coast FA girls teams entered the Women’s Charleston Select Shootout over the weekend and both came home with tournament hardware. Sunny skies made for a perfect tournament in historic Charleston, South Carolina.
The Coast 01 Girls coached by R.J. Bass brought home championship honors in the top U17 division, posting a 3-1 victory over Rock Hill-based DSC Lady Gold. The girls clawed their way through pool play, posting a 1-1-1 record to set up a rematch with Discoveries Soccer, who earlier handed them their only defeat of the weekend. “The girls had a very successful weekend and played with a lot of heart to come from behind in the championship,” said Coach Bass.
Coach Vinnie De La Cueva’s Coast 06g Red squad came up one goal shy to claim finalist honors in the U12 top division. After dropping the first match 1-2, the girls posted two shutout victories to earn their way into the finals. The championship match versus Jacksonville Florida saw the girls end up on the wrong end of a 0-1 scoreline. “We were tested with very good competition in all four matches. This was a good mid-season tournament that will help us with the remainder of our fall schedule,” said Coach De La Cueva.
