Five Finalists at Independence Tournament

Five Coast FA teams returned home with runner up trophies in hand from the Charlotte Independence Great Clips Tournament over the weekend. As always, the facilities were first class and the tournament was loaded with top clubs from across the Carolinas. The weather was also spectacular which made for a great weekend of soccer. “ Having twenty of our teams in the same event provided a great opportunity for our directors to watch multiple matches from our teams. This experience will be very beneficial as we now move into our SCYSA league play “ said DOC Ross Morgan.

Coast 07 Black (Click for Image) Coach Aleksander Ljubicic…After a disappointing opening match 1-2 loss the boys settled in and reeled off three consecutive victories in dominating fashion. “ I am proud of my boys. We all saw a demonstration of commitment, comrades, beautiful soccer and fair play. Bravo Coast 07 Black ” said Coach Ljubicic

Coast 07 Red  (Click for Image) Coach Joel Banta…Team posted a 2-2-0 record for the event in a very difficult division. Coach Banta added “ My team had a great weekend against some stiff competition. We rebounded well after an opening match loss to beat a very good CESC team in the semis. We came up short in the finals against a Wake FC NPL team that made it to the NPL championship last year.”

Coast 03 Red (Click for Image) Coach Brian Smith…Had to face a very good Wake FC North team twice during the tournament and came up short 2-4 in the championship. “The level of this event was very good and will prepare my team for the remainder of our Piedmont National League schedule. I am proud of the boys performance this weekend ” said Coach Smith.

Coast 06g Red (Click for Image) Coach RJ Bass…Scratched their way to the finals in spite of losing their goalkeeper very early in the tournament. “This tournament will serve as our last before getting into our SCYSA Challenge League schedule. Our U16/U17 division was very difficult and even though we did not win this event it showed that we have a lot to look forward to this season ” said Coach Bass.

Coast 10 Red  (Click for Image) Coach RJ Bass…Almost won their third tournament in a row but dropped a heartbreaker 1-2 to Raleigh based NCFC. Coach Bass said “ We continue to push this team by playing them up an age group. Losing to a very strong NCFC side in the last few minutes was a tough result . We learned a lot about ourselves as a team this weekend which will only contribute to our future success.”
